Champagne Couch - September

Well, I thought the height of my week would be when we did fouettes in class, and I was the last one standing, on both my stronger and weaker sides. However, I seem to be having a particularly good week in that I was also chosen to solo in a performance which the choreographer originally set on herself. Yay!

Yay for you, insidesoloist!

My only thing is that my developpes a la second have somehow gotten higher. Not ballerina high, but maybe 120 where they used to be about 90 on a good day. I'm happy! :(

120 on your developpes a la seconde ! I am so impressed. Good on you !

insidesolist- Congrats on your solo !

I am auditioning tonight for Carabosse in Sleeping Beauty. I'll let you know in a few days.

I'm back. I got it ! Carabosse ! on pointe ! Oh My God. Dreams do come true.

Striving for Grace, that change in your extensions is major. Congratulations!

Ania, good for you! I hope you really enjoy your role!

Yay, us! Fall is off to a good start... :)

Wow--sounds like everyone has good things to celebrate! And getting Carabosse--I'm pea green with envy! :)

My highlight is that the teacher at the community college where I'm taking two classes a week is letting me stay for the pointe class afterward. So I'm officially starting pointe (as opposed to "unofficially" doing releves in pointe shoes at the kitchen sink! ) Everything seems to be working well--she says my feet are great for pointe, and that I'm holding my turnout when I go up and down. She says I've got the stretch, but have to work on strength, so I have to do the roll up and roll down verrrrry slooooowwly.

I'm so thrilled, though I've now found EXACTLY where the blisters are going to form on my pinkie toes! :pinch: Bought different toe pads and toe tape today, so maybe that will help.

Oh, yeah, and I'm down another pound and had to buy the next smaller size in tights today!!

We've had some emotional drama at our company this week and tonight had to sit in a circle and give everyone compliments. Everyone assumed that this one girl was the oldest. She's not. I'm older than her by almost 7 years. So I stopped the girls and asked them how old they thought I was. They all said early 20's. I told them I would be 30 in January and they nearly died.

Anyways, when it came my turn one girl said that she appreciated the effort that I put into everything. Even though I don't always get or do everything correctly, I still attempt it and keep pushing through it, and pick back up when I can. She told me to keep doing that and eventually I would get to where I wanted to be. Another girl said she knew I was older than them, but she didn't realize until tonight how much older. She said that it meant so much to her for me to be in class with them and that she admired my work ethic. She also said that I helped her and the others a lot when it comes to work ethic and that I just didn't know what it meant to them for me to be there. Another girl also complimented my work ethic and said that even though I didn't really know anyone there that I was never afraid to jump in on a conversation, that I was easy to talk to, and I wasn't afraid to speak up about things. And finally, another girl said that she thought of me as a friend and she always sought me out at the beginning of classes to talk to because I'm interesting, fun to be around, encourage her to pursue her goals, and she sees me trying really hard and wants to help me as much as she can.

So, I felt very flattered and like what I've been doing the first few weeks of this year have been noticed by not only the teachers but the other students as well. I made it my goal once I had my eye surgery that I was going to throw myself into absolutely everything and if I didn't get it...............at least I tried and I could walk out of the studio at the end of the night knowing that I'd given everything my best shot. It seems to be working so far.

Congratulations one and all! My accomplishment is modest compared to all of yours, but it's a big deal for me: I held my balance in passe releve for several seconds on each leg, several times! :hyper: I may master pirouettes yet!

Yay Kasaba!!! Sometimes at work or at home I'll just randomly do a releve passe just to "test" myself. Know what I mean? And then I'll start switching up the arms to really test myself. My co-workers sometimes get a laugh when I'm at the copy machine standing there balancing in a releve passe with arms in fifth en haut. ;p

The good thing about where i work is theres usually no one else here, and the loooooong corridor is fun for grand jetes.... Although i suspect there may be a security company somewhere with hilarious vision of me slipping out of a pirouette in the kitchen and almost crashing into the vending machine. :hyper::green:

September is spring - so while i cant crack the champas yet i can tell you im inspired to work on my elevation in allegro. It used to be one of my strengths until i got older and lazier. Flexibility is also on my radar ... watch out hip flexors and hammies - you will be stretched!

Congratulations, kasaba! That is a major breakthrough!

As for dancing (or at least sneaking in a good number of balances) at all those jobs I held up to teaching dance, I am also guilty. Many of my coworkers also found it amusing. Ditto of balancing and turning in the grocery store or any number of other inappropriate places. I am far more restrained now than I was when I was younger. I wonder how much surveillance camera coverage there is of everyone on BT4D collectively. We could probably have quite the video of ourselves were that to be collected and edited! I would love to see it.

THe great thing is teachers do it too.

I caught my ballet teacher throwing a pirouette in Grocery store Parking lot !

I love the idea of a collected video of all the ballet done in non traditional venues.

Well, I found out last Monday that noone else had signed up for the class I was taking. Normally, this would be on the wine couch, however, due to the fact that my instructors are pushing me to take the Cecchetti Grade III exam in October, I'm being permitted to keep the class as a private session, at the cost of a regular class, not a private class.

Also, I'm being permitted to help with the Grade II class that's before mine, so that's super duper too.

Oh, and there's a guy in my Thursday class, which is ultra rare for Sioux Falls. He's scary flexible. Like can developpe and get his knee to his nose. It's rather fun to watch. We'll be stretching or something and he'll battement and the teacher does this jaw dropped look. Therefore, cheers for dancing boys.

We have performance next week end and I have a beautiful solo there with beautiful tutu as a Snowqueen.

Then I heard from my mum that my always-jealouse sister said that I danced the solo beautiful and that the piece would be much too difficult for her. Now that's a compliment.

Then I had some major fouette problems I made a post about it here. The problem is still there but I was practicing so much that I can now do 12 (inspite of 6) fouettes on pointe. (It is nice *sigh* but I still cannot do my five fouettes to the music I should do them :D )

Claude - but you ARE doing fouettes on pointe !

I'd be happy to get them on flat.

Congratulations on Snow Queen. Have fun !

I know all too well what you mean, but my co-workers are used to catching me and my ballroom-dancing colleague practicing moves in the copy room. I get my weird looks from people who have caught me practicing turnout by standing in fourth or fifth position (arms bas, of course!) in the grocery checkout line! :)
