and5678
Did anyone else see the movie today on MTV? It was supposed to be a sequel to the original. The young lady was a student at Julliard. Just wanted to see what other people thought. I thought it did a disservice to Julliard's program and ballet as a whole. Let me know what you all thought! balletboyrhys
Yeah. It's pretty bad. Apparently this juillard doesn't have modern, no levels, and only has one instructor. The dancers in it aren't too bad though. Quote Link to comment
Clara 76
Will it be on again soon? Quote Link to comment
balletboyrhys
Hmmm you might wanna snoop around mtv.com and see? it's on right now but its almost over. It actually has a lot more actual ballet than the other one. Even if it does present ballet kind of strangely. Quote Link to comment
Clara 76
Can you explain, "Strangely"? Quote Link to comment
gogators
I went on MTV.com for the first time (yeah, I'm an Internet old-timer ) and searched on Save the Last Dance II and came across this page, which posts more info, including schedule and online trailer: www.mtv.com/movies/movie/303231/moviemain.jhtml Quote Link to comment
Clara 76
Thanks! Will check it out. Quote Link to comment
Spice4life
I just finished watching it. It was...interesting. Yes, there was more ballet than the original Save The Last Dance, but there was really no question in my mind as to why it was only shown on MTV and then released on DVD. Now that it's over I'm not sure what to make of it. I was sewing some pointe shoes while it was on, so I wasn't exactly paying attention the whole time, but what I got of it was a lot of the stereotype of not having time to live and such. I did however really like the last dance sequence, especially the tap part. Quote Link to comment
Clara 76
From what I saw of the trailer, it appears that the film disparages ballet in favor of hip-hop. Is that accurate? Methinks someone, somewhere at MTV may have an axe to grind.............. Quote Link to comment
Goldenhuny06
I thought it was wierd that Julliard's dance program was represented as being more ballet than modern(in the movie there was a modern department but it was basically second class) and I always thought Juliiard was more modern than ballet. Am I wrong? Quote Link to comment
balletboyrhys
I know several dancers at Juillard. It is safe to say that the Juillard represented in STLD 2 has little to no resemblance to the original program. Quote Link to comment
ddm3
Juilliard trains dancers equally in ballet and modern. The goal is to produce a versatile dancer. There are students in the dance division who are pursuing a career in ballet and others who are more interested in modern. I watched the trailer, but could not really get a feeling for how the movie represents the school. I guess I'll have to rent the movie to see what was strange about the ballet sequences. Methinks someone, somewhere at MTV may have an axe to grind.............. I would say that assumption is pretty accurate. After all, ballet is full of stuffy stuck up rutheless dancers you know. That is definitely one thing I noticed watching the movie. Quote Link to comment
primasylph
Well from the moment I saw the preivew of it on MTV I knew it was going to be a crap-fest cause no movie that is any good gets advertised with its DVD release in the same commerical! I haven't had an opportunity to see the whole thing though I was able to catch the dance sequence at the end and to say that I was unimpressed is a vast understatement. The "choreography" for the most part was hip-hop with some single turns and some weird stag-leaps thrown in just so they could say "Hey look! It's hip-hop AND ballet, together!" -10 stars....
