bunion surgery

My dd's friend has a situation and needs advise. She is almost 16 years old and has been dancing seriously since the age of 8. Now she is presented with a problem. She has to have surgery on her bunion for they found a painful sist on top of it and want to remove both. Her specialist told her that she would be out of commision for at least 3 months post operation. She has already been out for 2, due to a serious amount of pain and inflamation of the sist. She is concerned about being able to dance at the level she could have achieved for that will be approx. 6 months before she can dance again. Do you think her surgery will affect her outcome of her future dancing.

I don't think we can know the answer to that, twinkletoze. Every case is different. It's highly likely that she can dance again, and probably at the same level, but it will just take her a while longer to get there after being out so long. The thing is, that since she can't dance now, she really has no choice, although I would certainly want a second opinion on something like that before going through with the surgery.

Thank you so much. She is such a beautiful girl, inside and out, and passions ballet. She is very upset about her situation. Before she asked me to ask advise on ballet talk, I told her the same thing. So glad you second it. Hopefully, her parents will take her for that second opinion.
