Carrie
hi, i posted this on dance.net, but i trust the people here so much more for reliable responses, so i was wondering if losing a little bit of turnout in your supporting leg is acceptable in developpes, retire releves, and things of the sort. i normally wouldn't even think about it being okay, but i noticed one of the best dancers at my (very good) studio shifts her supporting foot a bit in developes. do professionals do that? Mel Johnson
No, they don't. It is better in class to sacrifice a bit of extension in order to be able to maintain turnout on the supporting leg, then work to build the extension while maintaining the rotation of the thighbone in the hipjoint. Sometimes, you have to take one step back to go two forward. Quote Link to comment
