davisathens
Hi. I'm a new adult ballet student. The class is an adult class, but there are just a handful of us that are truly 'new'. I don't know the french terms for the positions/movements, etc. Is there a book or web site I should be using to familiarize myself with the terms? Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Hands down, Gail Grant, Technical Manual and Dictionary of Classical Ballet. It's the best $5 you'll ever spend. Quote Link to comment
davisathens
Thanks. I'll hop over to Amazon and look it up. Quote Link to comment
dancingjet
ABT's online ballet dictionary (linked to in a sticky in this forum) might also be helpful. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
That's also a fairly good one (it's based on Grant) and it's FREE! But the drawback over time has been that as demonstrators have left the company, their clips are removed from the site. Quote Link to comment
Claude_Catastrophique
To learn terms it is not very good but I just love Gretchen Ward Warren's Classical Ballet Technique to look up terms if I am not sure anymore how it is called correctly. Quote Link to comment
