Ballet Talk for Dancers

I know that Carleton offers a dance major, and the program sounds interesting in that the major requires one term's participation in an approved, off-campus conservatory program. However, the school itself offers just 3 levels of ballet. Is there anyone here who knows more about the program?

I just know what information is given in brochures, but it sounds like it is modern based, and not serious at all. I guess more like an extracurricular type of thing, even though they have a dance department.

Its cross-state rival, Macalester College in St Paul, offers a similiar type of dance program (i.e., not really for any serious study of ballet). But the advantage perhaps of Macalester is that they're very close to some good pre-pro ballet schools, one of which is only a couple of blocks away. I don't think Carlton's location offers anything beyond campus because of its more rural location.

Indeed, Gogators.

I lived in Northfield, MN (home to Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges) for 6 years. Carleton College is an excellent school and Northfield is a great community, but take it from the town slogan "Cows, Colleges and Contentment", there is little opportunity for upper-level dance training.
