Strengthening hamstrings

Hello-

I have been having problems with my knees lately and my teacher said today that it might help if I strengthen my hamstring. She suggested bicycling and laying on my back and arching it-pushing my middle up-and holding it there (I think that makes sense).

I was wondering if there were additional exercises you could suggests, and also whether bicycling could have any adverse effects.

Thanks!

Cycling shouldn't be detrimental, as long as you remember to do "cool-down stretches" at the end of the session to re-lengthen the muscles and retain flexibility.

I don't know what the arched back exercise does by itself, but I do recall one that has you do that while lying on your back and the legs make as though they're doing a demi-plié in first position. It was essentially a stretch, but did work on the hamstrings, nevertheless.
