macleb
I don't know what is wrong with me, but I have lost all of my turns. I feel very lost, because I am taking more ballet classes a week, but I feel like I have lost my technique. I am trying really hard to keep my core in as best I can, but it doesn't work. At my local SI, I could do tripples en pointe, but now I am lucky for a good solid doubble on flat. EEKKKKKK! It is sooo frustrating, I just got back from class and I feel like a moron. What is happening??? thanks macleb Quote Link to comment
danceangel101
macleb, I know exactly how you feel! When I loose my turns it is usually because I have grown. When you grow, or even if your body changes, you loose your center and have to find it all over again. I am not really sure how long it takes to get it back, but I know it can't take too long! Don't get too discouraged because it happens to everyone! I know it is frustrating, but just keep up the good work!! I hope I helped!!! danceangel101 Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted September 15, 2007 Administrators Report Share Posted September 15, 2007 danceangel, you are correct that this could be the reason, however, we don't know that she has had a growth spurt. It is highly possible, of course, but, there could be other reasons too. Please do not answer technical questions on YD until at least one of the teacher/moderators has responded. macleb, it is likely that growth would cause this, but, it could also be that you had a break after SI, and it is taking some time to get everything back together again. Also, remember that in the SI you were working daily, lots of hours, and now you probably don't have nearly as many classes. How long was your break, and how many classes a week do you have now? macleb
I only got a week off between my SI and fall lessons. I am taking 4-5 times weekly. I think that I might be in a growth spurt, because I can't stop eating. If it helps at all, I'm 13. Thanks, I'll try not to get too discuraged.(sp?) Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted September 15, 2007 Administrators Report Share Posted September 15, 2007 Yes, then it sounds like you must be in a growth spurt! Just bear with it, as your center may be off for a little while. It will come back. Quote Link to comment
macleb
How long will it be? I am dying in class! Can my growth sput be blamed for me feeling like I have lost some of my technique? If not, then why do I feel like a blob in my dance class? thank you for your help Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted September 15, 2007 Administrators Report Share Posted September 15, 2007 There is no way of knowing how long, macleb, but probably a few weeks at least. Yes, when you lose your center, due to growth, you can feel like you have lost your technique. Don't worry, that has not happened, and it will come back. Just work hard on trying to align yourself correctly and find your balance point with the additional length in your body. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
And it may not be growth as we think of it (stature). Sometimes it's rezoning. You lose it in the back and put it on in the front! Any time your dimensions change, whether top to bottom, front to back, or side to side, everything changes. And it keeps on going all your life. PinkonPointe
I had a growth spurt recently too, and I definitely can't turn as well as I used to, so I can totally sympathize!! The good news is my turns are slowly coming back, so there is hope for us all!!! Quote Link to comment
balletrx
I am always growing so it's really annoying. I just find that I have to concentrate more than ever. No thinking about the weather while you're turning! I just try to remember all the corrections I've gotten and apply them as much as I can. Just focus and you will get them back! macleb
Thank you guys so much for your help. I will pay extra attention to my core during class, and try not to get too distracted while turning! Now I know there is hope! macleb Quote Link to comment
jessi489
Yeah, I know how you feel. I recently had the biggest growth spurt, andI lost my turns, my balence(sp?), and I was the clumsiest person you would meet. It took me awile, but I got everything back, so hang in there!
