appleblossom
The Nureyev/Fonteyn Romeo and Juliet to Prokofiev's music is on TV here at the moment. Which theatre was it filmed at? Does the ER on the curtains mean something? Thanks Quote Link to comment
ami1436
I believe it was filmed at the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), London. ER = Elizabeth Regina = Queen Elizabeth. It's a stunning cast, so keep your eyes open. Including two future RB directors: Dowell (Benvolio) and Mason (a harlot)!!!!!!!! Quote Link to comment
rg
indeed the ER II is the insignia on the curtain of royal op. house denoting, ELIZABETH II REGINA. i haven't double checked the vid but, while the house curtain frames the filming, i suspect the shoot was accomplished in an empty theater to allow for ease of camerawork, etc. the curtains opening & closing is to give the sense of an actual perf. which this was not, to best of my recall.
