Television: Nureyev/Fonteyn, which theatre?

Recommended Posts

The Nureyev/Fonteyn Romeo and Juliet to Prokofiev's music is on TV here at the moment.

Which theatre was it filmed at?

Does the ER on the curtains mean something?

Thanks

I believe it was filmed at the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), London. ER = Elizabeth Regina = Queen Elizabeth. It's a stunning cast, so keep your eyes open. Including two future RB directors: Dowell (Benvolio) and Mason (a harlot)!!!!!!!!

indeed the ER II is the insignia on the curtain of royal op. house denoting, ELIZABETH II REGINA.

i haven't double checked the vid but, while the house curtain frames the filming, i suspect the shoot was accomplished in an empty theater to allow for ease of camerawork, etc. the curtains opening & closing is to give the sense of an actual perf. which this was not, to best of my recall.
