Kellinger
Help! I have tried and tried unsuccessfully to locate a copy of Enrique Martinez's Coppelia for ABT. We will be performing Coppelia in May and our AD likes Enrique's version. I'd spent hours on the net on various search engines looking for it. I'm beginning to believe it doesn't exist. Our AD has a copy on VHS but it needs to be spliced. AD tends to refer me to specific videos for costuming ideas hence my search. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
rg
i know of no video releases of ABT's COPPELIA. BARYSHNIKOV AT WOLF TRAP FARM includes a perf. of the act 3 pas de deux (w/ kirkland) from that version but that's all i can think of at the moment on video. perhaps the copy in your AD's hands is a house tape provided by ABT. here's how the NYPL lists its copy of the telecast regarding the COPPELIA excerpt. Mikhail Baryshnikov / WNET/13 ; director, Stan Lathan ; producer, Ruth Leon ; executive producer, David Prowitt.U.S. : WNET/13, 1976.(60 min.) : sd., col. Danced by Mikhail Baryshnikov, with Gelsey Kirkland, Marianna Tcherkassky, and Martine Van Hamel. Music performed by Filene Center Orchestra, conducted by Akira Endo. Coppélia: Act III pas de deux / choreography, Enrique Martínez after Arthur Saint-Léon ; music, Léo Delibes ; danced by Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland. In performance at Wolf Trap, by WNET/13, New York on December 30, 1976 Quote Link to comment
enjoyballet
My daughter takes from the Martinez studio, (his sister and niece) and while it is quite a long shot, when I see them tomorrow I will ask if they can point a direction to the tape or if it is only availabble in a "house type" format. I don't want to get your hopes up since it is probably quite a long shot..... Quote Link to comment
Kellinger
Understand and appreciate the effort whatever the outcome. In any case, the ballet world was a lot smaller then (not that's it's that big now!). Without giving too much away, AD grew up and trained in CA. She was a professional dancer who danced here in the states, but she was a soloist and principal in Switzerland. I want to say AD danced with Enrique but I maybe mistaken - she may have danced for him instead. Hence her wanting his version of Coppelia. Quote Link to comment
