pittsburgh ballet theatre 08
hello, im dave naquin. im new here. i have a question for all of the male dancers. this might be weird for me to ask this. but do us male dancers need to wax our legs. the reason y im asking is cuz i put on a costume to where u can almost see my butt and people have been giving me a hard time about how hairy i am and i should wax my legs/butt. and i was thinking about waxing my legs. what do u think about tht? citibob
Just shave off any hair you don't want to be seen. You don't have to do a great shave job, just shave it down to a couple millimeters or less, and it won't be visible on stage. Waxing is certainly overkill. Quote Link to comment
Hans
You could also do a close trim, and then you won't have itchy stubble growing in. The hair still won't be visible from the audience. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Or you could use a depilatory, like Nair, however, you must follow label instructions to the letter, especially the part about doing a patch test, to see if your skin reacts to the chemistry. Quote Link to comment
MJ
Once I tried a depilatory, Felt like my skin was on fire. There are plenty of trimmers out there, even ones with long handles for the back. Waxing is painful! And leaves red welts for days. Quote Link to comment
Hans
I never experienced welts from waxing and had very little pain, but I understand that it varies from one individual to another. Still, it is quite a bit more expensive than trimming or shaving. Quote Link to comment
dancersteven
I have to vote against waxing as well, especially if you are, shall we say, hairier than the average bear? I can joke because I am very hairy, and have shaved, waxed and Naired at various times. Whenever I have tried waxing it was never very effective. Some of the hair would come off, sure, but not all of it. It hurt and I ended up having to shave anyway. Before we get too carried away here, are you sure that the director/choreographer wants you to have hairless legs? Depends on the role. Perhaps your director considered the state of your legs before they picked the costume? I would ask first. Quote Link to comment

Mel Johnson
Whatever you do, resist the urge to try to singe it off using a butane torch! Owww, and besides, it stinks. Quote Link to comment
