Mary, can you name the nearest cities in your area? I have no idea what is in Eastern Kentucky.

As for ballet shoes, there is no specific shoe for beginners. Ballet shoes are all pretty much alike. I would suggest waiting until you sign up for classes. Find the school first, because some of them have specific requirements for a certain type of shoe. If not, Capezio and Bloch have good ballet shoes in several different types, like leather or canvas, full sole or split sole. Personally, I prefer the canvas split sole, but some teachers require leather.

Since you asked the question first here, about the shoes, I have deleted your other topic that was asking the same question about shoes.

Mary, I know you are new and full of enthusiasm, but please slow down just a bit, and start reading. I also suggest that you proof read your own posts before hitting the send button, as there are a lot of spelling and typing errors.

Mary, I think we are going to need some help from other people on this one. I can't even find Owensboro on the map, and the only school listed in Dance Magazine for Kentucky is Louisville Ballet. There might be something in Lexington or Bowling Green, but no other large cities seem to be showing up.

There are 6 schools listed in the yellow pages for Owensboro, but there is no information on them, and nothing that tells me if they even have ballet, much less about the faculty and the focus of the school. Unfortunately, most small town schools have a lot of classes other than ballet and very little focus on ballet classes. It is also very hard to find really qualified ballet teachers in these towns. It can happen, but it is not the usual. Sometimes even if the teacher is qualified, she cannot offer enough ballet classes to really train a dancer.

That is the sad thing about living in a small town!! Soemtimes i love it sometimes I hate it! Oh well that doesn't make me want to do ballet even less!

We wish you the best of luck in finding a good school, but my guess is that you will have to travel a ways to find one. Hope your parents are supportive and willing to drive.

This is really late but if anyone is still looking in this topic at this particular state we have the Louisville ballet (based in Louisville), The Lexington Ballet( based in Lexington), The Kentucky Ballet Theatre (Based in Lexington), The Bluegrass Youth Ballet (Based in Lexington).

I think that the Lexington Ballet is by far the best the instructors are amazing, you get wonderful performance opportunities, and the school feeds into the amazing company led by mr Luis Dominguez former principal at the dance theatre of Harlem.
