LilBalletDancer1993
SOS!!!!! Hey, I know someone who is trying to join this site, but can't everytime she tries... She's using a hotmail account, and I think she is coming onto the site, and filling in her details, but it won't let her join? She's 13, nearly 14. Do any of the moderators know of a problem on the site? Because we don't know what to do, and need help... It's all very sad... LBDxXx Has anyone else had this problem, or are we all alone?? dancemaven
The problem is the hotmail account. Our site does not recognize hotmail as a valid e-mail account. How To Register Quote Link to comment
LilBalletDancer1993
Okay, she used gmail too to try, but that hasn't worked either... Do you have any free e-mail services that this site does support, so she could make an account for the purpose of signing up?? Thank you!! LBDxXx Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Neither hotmail nor gmail will work. We tried having them as registerable domains, but since they both have a free e-mail service, spammers love that, and the Administrators would spend practically half our time onboard ditching spam. We tried being tolerant for years, actually, but the bad guys wouldn't give us a break (that's why they're bad guys!), so we had to ban those email addresses. We'd love to be able to advise you on this, but the fact is, we don't know what-all email services there are out there. All we know are the services that have sent us ######, drug, or other impermissible content. They're out. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 8, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted March 8, 2008 LilBalletDancer, if your friend has a computer, or is on a home computer, there has to be an Internet Service Provider. Otherwise she could not get online. These are paid servers, such as aol, msn, earthlink, bellsouth.net, etc. All she has to do is establish an email account with whatever server provides her Internet Service, which is already being paid for, and there is no additional charge for email. LilBalletDancer1993
Thank you for your replies!! I will tell her all your advice!! I know she wants to join, so will keep trying all the options you have suggested!! LBDxXx One quick thing- isn't msn hotmail? I always thought it was the same thing, but I may ne wrong (I often am about such things- I'm awful with computers!!) Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 8, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted March 8, 2008 No. MSN is a legitimate, paid, service provider. Hotmail accounts can be opened from any computer, as with gmail and yahoo. MSN will work just fine here. Quote Link to comment
LilBalletDancer1993
Oh, thank you! You really do learn something new every day!! I am just e-mailing her to tell her all the replies I have recieved for her to try!!LBDxXx Quote Link to comment
Lexie
Also if she doesn't have one of those there is a website, www.myway.com, and you can set up a free email account there and it works for log in here. Just encase she does need to make a new email account! Good luck to you and your friend! ~Lexie Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 11, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted March 11, 2008 Lexie, if someone is online, then they have to have a way of getting there. That means they have an Internet Service Provider. All they need to do is establish an email account with that provider. We do not like free email accounts, and that one is likely to get banned too. One of the reasons for that is that people who have those accounts constantly change their email addresses and then we cannot reach them. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
You see, it's not so much a matter of anything wrong with the site itself, it has to do with the nature of harvesters and bots, which comb message boards looking for email addresses and domains. A free email service having been mentioned, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find somebody trying to register with it now, selling snake oil or worse. Quote Link to comment
LilBalletDancer1993
I see now!!! I hadn't thought of anything like that (i can be a bit dumb and naive), but now I understand....Sorry!! I thought I had used my hotmail account to sign up, which is why I thought there may be a problem with the site when she couldnt use hers... now I geuss I must have used my AOL!! I think now we've sorted the problem out, though, I think she's going to use her mums e-mail account, but it's temporarily broken, so she's going to wait a couple of days... But she wants to join!! Thank you for all your advice, though, ahhh I love this site everyone is sooo nice and helpful!! Quote Link to comment
