April Flowers!

Recommended Posts

Well, it's small, but it feels so good. After three months... I'm finally jumping again! Just some small, light petite allegro... but, as a 'Bournonville Baby' (lover of allegro, especially petite allegro with lots of ballon...), it feels SO GOOD to be all bouncy again!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations! As a fellow jumper, I know the feeling of freedom it gives, especially if you can still breathe when you're done. Still working on the breathing part since I'm still out of shape. Ah, but the euphoria...

I just turned 40 this week and it just hit me that I'm probably at my halfway mark in lifespan, that is if you look at the average lifespan. But, I feel like I'm at the top of my game and getting better. A younger friend of mine said she hopes she looks as good as I do when she turns my age  . Would have been more of a compliment if she were quite a bit younger than me, she's only 36! Well, a compliment is still a compliment. I think I should go get my glass of champage! Here's to not looking my age and feeling younger than I am!

Well, I went to an audition at Rambert yesterday. It sure was terrifying standing next to 16 year-olds trying out for a place!

My champagne moment is that usually, pirouettes are a hit-or-miss. Sometimes out of the blue I'd get a sloppy double, sometimes I can't even land a single properly. But guess what, yesterday I managed clean doubles, both sides!!!

It was kind of a shock when I went for the first one and actually went round twice and landed on my two feet. It gave me such a boost that I tried it again and it worked again! Which was more of a shock because normally second try wouldn't work either.

The principal said it's a 10-to-1 competition so I think my chances are slim. I'm happy to have just gone for the audition and knowing that I did my best and more in the audition.

My April champagne moment was yesterday when I was finally able to do a proper pirouette with the leg in retiré sustained all the way through the turn! It was my first lesson after a whole month's rest after my feet were injured from the concrete flooring in my previous school. Now that I have found a new school with sprung floor and the proper surface, I find doing pirouettes to be much easier. Although I wouldn't say it was a perfectly executed pirouette, I am glad that my bent leg didn't fall loose half way through the turn like it used to. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Slowly and surely keeping up... had my first little post-injury pointe class on Friday - just beginning pointe, stayed at the barre, for about 20 minutes after class. Have been able to add bits of *light* grand allegro, and last night, I think, started to help move me beyond my pirouette fear. I don't think I'm a natural turner, but I was building up the skill and confidence. But I became injured when slipping within a pirouette exercise.... and am now dead scared of most centre work. But last night, the en dedans were awesome doubles... en dehors a bit more hit and miss, but I was just having fun dancing.
