Laschwen
I had this wonderful idea a while back; or so I thought. I had a lonely white dance skirt that wasn't getting any use because it didn't have any real friends in my jumble of a dance wardrobe. I think I got it on sale somewhere. White should have gone with everything, no? When I was having my order the special cut extra length leotard fits all last spring I thought I'd get a nice black and white one to go with it. When the new one arrived it needed alterations....funny....it was too long. I took it up over the weekend and tried it with the skirt. OH MY was that a bad idea together. You would think with a band of black going around ones midsection it might be flattering but no. No. So here is this nice new leotard with a white bodice and it is bra lined, and you can't see through it thankfully, but that is it. What happened to the idea of a little support in a bra? I don't need a lot of power as I don't have a lot to hold up, but a little shaping wouldn't hurt. I have other newish ones like this too. Didn't leotards without any kind of lining used to hold everything up nicely much better than these things do now, or is my age showing on my chest suddenly? I wore a sports bra with it tonight and a black skirt and felt that I looked pretty good, but those sports bras aren't exactly comfy. Maybe with a little more wear????? Hmmm. I used to find the very idea of wearing one of my perfectly good bras to ballet class thoroughly offensive. They would just get ruined with all that sweat. My how life changes. Now I have 3 special ones just for ballet class. Of course one of them was bought specifically for keeping me from having a "wardrobe malfunction" during cambres with a leotard that is too short..... I think that with the advances made in newer fabrics that wick sweat away from the body, some of the supportiveness in the fabric may well have been lost. I have had two babies, never had need for a bra before them as Mother Nature was kind on the upper half for a ballet-type body, but had me definitely planned out with good "birthing hips". I try and just ignore the bit of jiggle during petit allegro as the leotards with "lining" just sort of squish them down. I hate wearing one when I dance though they are certainly less perky thanks to age and the wee ones. Quote Link to comment
Laschwen
Maybe the fit at the chest is just not as snug as it once was. The fabrics and cuts do all seem to have changed since the old Danskin days when I didn't even need a lining if the fabric was a dark color. A Medium or a Large just squashed me in nicely. I didn't jiggle in those days. Quote Link to comment
MJ
I know the feeling. I bought a pair of Ivory mens tights at a dance shop for 4 bucks, they don't match anything I own. Quote Link to comment
