Haircut for professional auditions

Recommended Posts

I am a serious ballet student, 17 years old and about to audition for the first time for companies in spring of 09. I desperately want to cut my long hair off to about shoulder length. I mean, I will cut it in about two weeks, and it will have all of winter season to grow out before auditions...should I keep it long for auditions? Do auditioners like girls with a big lucious bun? I would hate to be cut just for my hair.

Alysse, shoulder length is not particularly short. As long as the hair can be put up neatly, it won't count against you. If you were to get your hair cut into a pixie cut or other helmet-type bob, now that would be problematical. Cut it and let grow as you've proposed.

When I attended my SI this year there were several girls with shoulder long hair and they cheated very well with a special cussion for a bun. I thought they had longer hair than mine (mine is about waist-long) because their buns were bigger than mine. It looked really neat and if you regret to cut your hair off according to make a bun, you could one of those to fake your bun :)

I just got my hair cut to an angled layered bob to chin length and the only thing I can do is to put it up into two little pigtails. And although Nutcracker is in 3 months, there is no way to have a bun for Nutcracker. But Discount Dance has fake buns that I use and they look soooooo real. You just need to have hair short enough to put into a small ponytail. I've learned that the bun doesn't make the dancer.
