balletstar811
Just recently I have had horrible lower back pain. I don't really feel it when I dance or work out but during the day if I'm sitting for awhile and then get up I do. I never have had a typical ballet body and have struggled in all my years of training with my torso alignment/posture because I have somewhat of a sway back or something which makes me wonder if the pain is attributed to this, but at the same time why does it suddenly hurt now after all these years? Any ideas? Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Does this pain set in invariably after sitting, or only after sitting in certain kinds of chairs, like school chairs or office work chairs? Link to comment
balletstar811
Well, after sitting anywhere. But I was racking my brain trying to think of what could have set this off and I was like duhhh... last Tuesday in rehearsal for a piece we had to do a back bend as far as possible over a turned in, forced arch leg (if that image makes any sense). It was obviously quite uncomfortable but do you think I could have pinched/pulled/hurt a part of my lower back doing this? Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Oh yes, that's why we always advise people that cambré back is not the same as a backbend. Since the pain has persisted or recurred for more than 5 days now, I'd make a doctor's appointment immediately to identify the source of the pain and to get measures to act against it.
