Swollen ankle

Tutulicous

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend I spent alot of time in the sun and did up some bad sunburn especially on my lower legs and feet.

My left ankle is quite swollen now, and I'm sure it is as a result of the sunburn. My mother says she thinks it may be water retention, but we aren't sure. Other than my skin being a little more sensitive, the ankle isn't really sore.

What I would like to know is would it be safe to dance on an ankle so swollen, or should I wait for the swelling to subside?

Wait.

Here are the four Principles of Celsus, which determine if there's an actual inflammation or not.

  1. Calor - The area feels hot.
  2. Rubor - It's red.
  3. Dolor - It hurts.
  4. Tumor - It's swollen.

When any three are present, you might have an inflammation. When all four are there, you definitely have an inflammation. (You've got three, for sure, "sensitive" is pain.) See a doctor. If you have to wait for the appointment, you might take Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, et al.) ,according to package instructions. Always have something in your stomach when you take NSAIDs.
