ChasseChaine
A few weeks ago a teacher told me to open my arms before I turn, and it was really helping me improve my en dehors pirouettes...but then another teacher told me just yesterday that I should not open my arms...what do I do about teachers that don't agree? Should I do it differently for each teacher? Link to comment

Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted October 27, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted October 27, 2008 Chasse, there are two different theories in terms of the preparation and entrance into pirouettes en dehor. One of them uses a rounded front arm, and that arm opens to second as you start the turn. The other one uses a straight front arm, and that pulls directly into first position when you start into the turn. It does not open to second. Both ways are valid, and you really need to just do whichever one is asked for from the teacher or choreographer. Link to comment
