L' Allegro
I realize there are a lot of threads out there on this. Recently I got a correction about leaning into the ribs of the supporting side during an extension to the side. So I dug out my Ballet Companion book (by Eliza Gaynor-Minden) and looked up extensions. Not to slam her, but on page 120, Maria Riccetto is shown leaning into her side in 'extension a la seconde' exactly like I was. Is this correct? Is it a teacher's preference? Thanks! Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 1, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted November 1, 2008 No, one does not "lean" anywhere on an extension to the side. In an écarté derrière there is the feeling of a slight tilt towards the downstage arm, and the head and eyes are slightly downward, but still the actual position of écarté is simply an à la seconde facing a corner. star13
One thing I need to work on, are my extensions! I have been struggling, for some time now and I just can't seem to get them up! I have my splits, and oversplits down, but my extensions to the front, side, and back are only a little above 90 degrees. Does anyone have advice on how to get extensions higher? Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 5, 2008 Administrators Report Share Posted November 5, 2008 Time, patience, and a lot of work. They will get higher as your strength increases. By the way, we do NOT recommend oversplits for ballet dancers. They are not safe. There are several topics about this here on the board you might want to look at. Link to comment
