I was just wondering... does having very stretched hamstrings cause hyperextention in the knee, or are those two completely unrelated things?

Well, hamstrings are muscles and hyperextension is a bone structure thing, so, I don't think they are necessarily related. A lot of dancers with hyperextension do have a great deal of flexibility and extension, however, so do a lot of dancers without hyperextension. So, no, I really don't think they are related.
