futureABTdancer
I have an audition at the School of American Ballet soon and the audition starts at 11:00 am. I went on Steps on Broadways's website and saw they have a beginner ballet class at 9:30. I wanted to be warmed up before the audition. I also saw on Broadway Dance Center's site that they have yoga at 9:30. Which should I take? Also the ballet class is beginner and im not beginner, and both classes end at 11:00 which is the time I need to be at SAB. Should I leave the class early? Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
I wouldn't do those classes before an audition class. It would be rude to Steps and the teachers there just to take a portion of class and leave. (I'm assuming that you would be a stranger there, rather than a regular student) Warm up on your own before the audition. Besides, in the time it would take you to get to SAB from Steps, particularly if the weather is as cold as it's been, you just might be all seized up by the time you get there, and have to warm up all over again. Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 2, 2009 Administrators Report Share Posted January 2, 2009 You will not be able to take the class because you should arrive at SAB at least an hour before the audition. There will be registration, and then you will want to change and warm up there. Quote Link to comment
balletbabe31
I believe that the audition starts at noon, so doing just the barre (which is very common at Steps) should be no problem. If you took Kathy Sullivan's class and just did barre, you would probably be done at 10:30 and even if you walked from Steps to SAB would make it there by 11:00. I don't think that taking the class would "warm you up" but it could definitely help in taking the "jitters" out, Kathy Sullivan is GREAT! Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Yes, she is. I oughtta know, I used to dance with her, and her sister Barbara, too. (Now be careful about the capitalization. Ms. Sullivan always wrote very well!) Quote Link to comment
futureABTdancer
11 is an hour before the audition How far is SAB from Steps? Quote Link to comment

futureABTdancer
thanks... so I should take barre at the 9:30 ballet class with kathy Sullivan, leave at 10:30 to get to SAB at 11:00? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 3, 2009 Administrators Report Share Posted January 3, 2009 That is an option, but we are not telling you what you should do. That is your decision. You have to know whether you will feel better after taking part of class and then walking in the cold from one school to the other, or just put all of your energy into the audition itself. It could work better for you either way, and we can't know that. Quote Link to comment

Mel Johnson
Relax, relax, relax, and you shouldn't be up at 2 A.M. the morning before an audition! Quote Link to comment

Mel Johnson
Good! Then go to bed early the night before! You'll need the rest. Quote Link to comment
Clara 76
Sweetie, you've got to take the attitude that this is just another class, an opportunity to do what you do every day of the week, 365 days a year. You can do class in your sleep I bet! All you can do is what you can, the rest is not in your control, so enjoy the class!! It'll be a chance to do patterns and steps in a way that might be a bit different from your day-to-day routine. Dance, smile, enjoy!! "Que Sera, Sera"!!! Quote Link to comment
