lynnatbeach
Dear Ms.Leigh, What is the typical time in a dancer's training to learn classical variations? While investigating options for summer study, some of the programs request an audition dvd that includes a classical variation. I am not sure my child has learned one yet, even though she has been a student at 2 "classical ballet" schools for about 10 years . She's 14. Did we miss the boat?? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 11, 2009 Administrators Report Share Posted January 11, 2009 The time to learn variations is when they are technically ready to start learning them. You have not missed the boat. It's possible that she is not yet in a class that is advanced enough to learn the variations, or that her school does not teach a variations class. Talk to her teacher and tell her about needing a variation for the video, ask her if your daughter is ready for a variation, and hopefully she will teach her one and coach her. You might need to do a private lesson or two. Quote Link to comment

sgmca
I was curious as to which summer intensives ask for a variation. We never ran into that when dd was auditioning for summers. That's a whole different boat that we missed I guess. Quote Link to comment
