LittleDropOfSunshine
I've been out of ballet for awhile now, about 2 years completely, and then I just did a little bit last year, and now, I want to get back into things, more seriously, and eventually get back into doing pointe. I've taken a couple classes at a local dance school, and I've been approved to do pointe when I feel ready because I do have solid technique and strength. I want to dance for a couple of months first though, to get more confidence. So, how should I go about doing this? I can either take classes in the teen/adult division which is more laid back, or in the children's division which is a pre-professional track. What do you suggest? Experiences? Thanks! Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 15, 2009 Administrators Report Share Posted January 15, 2009 I would say that decision is really up to you, in terms of how you feel about the classes and how they work for you. Maybe try both, and see where you feel most comfortable. Link to comment
xSugarplum
If you want to get back into doing dance seriously and doing pointe seriously then I think that might be more of the pre-professional track. I don't know of too many studios that offer daily 90 minute classes for adults, and less that offer similar things for adult pointe. Since you said yourself you want to be serious...it would make sense to go where the serious students will be so that you have some motivation and common interests with the other people in your class. Just my opinion. Is there anything that is making you hesitate between the two divisions, though? Link to comment
dancemaven
XSugarplum, you've been posting consistently in both Adult Ballet and YD 17-22. Which is the proper group for you? Link to comment
Mel Johnson
It's OK, we established that on the "Turns on Pointe" thread. Apparently, she is vocational or academic track, and will be posting on Young Dancers from now on. Link to comment
LittleDropOfSunshine
Well, age makes a difference. In the teen/adult division, I'll probably be the youngest in the classes, and in the children's division, I'll probably be the oldest. In any event, There will be at least 2 classes a week at the proper level that I can attend, 90 minutes each, and the pointe class is once a week, 60 minutes, mixed divisions. Link to comment
xSugarplum
XSugarplum, you've been posting consistently in both Adult Ballet and YD 17-22. Which is the proper group for you? I think I made about 3 posts in the Adult forum, out of 30+ posts I have. I was told not to post on both, so I stopped right away. I was told I could go ahead and post on the "Adult buddy board" though, unless I misunderstood, and thus far have made only 1 post there because there was a post there that I felt very strongly about, and the girl was the same age as me. I'm 21, so age-wise I'm kind of in between both boards which is why I had posted on both, but I didn't realize the boards weren't separated only by age (but also by "track" so to speak) and therefore decided to stick to the Young Dancer's board because it is much more in tune with my current needs. I won't post in the Adult buddy board again either since that's easier; I'm still new and have been unsure of where I should and shouldn't post. I read a little bit of everything so perhaps I've been too liberal with where I've shared my thoughts. If I've offended/frustrated anyone, I offer my apologies. :] I shall stick to this neck of the forums in the future. LittleDrop- if I were in your dance shoes, I'd personally go with whatever classes work the best for me in every facet: time slot, number of classes, teachers in charge, length of class time, opportunities for progression/pointe work/performance if you want that, as well as general goals you wish to achieve and how many people in the classroom share those same goals. Seeing as how you'll either be the youngest or oldest anyway, I'd just disregard the age thing altogether and go for the best for you, without comparing yourself to the others in the class. I would think you'd have more in common with the younger girls by your original post, but only you know where you'll best be fulfilled. Link to comment
dancemaven
xSugarplum, no worries. I didn't realize you and Major Mel had worked it out. This Board just operates differently than most other ballet boards. Link to comment
Mel Johnson
And I think Adult BB is not a stretch here. It's much more informal chat related to ballet. Link to comment
xSugarplum
Thank you for your understanding everyone. Link to comment
