dancepig
It's another snowy Wednesday, still trying to get over the bout of pneumonia, so watched Turner Classic Movies. Watched "Words and Music". It's supposed to be a movie about Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart circa 1948, with Mickey Rooney and June Allyson. This was all fine and dandy, but when they did a dance sequence that looked like the Rockettes en pointe - well that was very strange. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it! Anyone else familar with this film? Moderators, please put this where it's supposed to go, I'm not exactly sure where to put it. Thank you! Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
That was a genre familiar to many audiences of the 20s and 30s, the girls' chorus in "toe shoes". The choreographer for Words and Music was Robert Alton, and he knew his show business. Quote Link to comment
dancepig
Yes indeed Robert Alton knew his stuff! There were many wonderful dance sequences in this film, my favorite being the one with Gene Kelly in the jazz performance. Some of those moves were unbelievable. But the "girls' chorus in 'toe shoes'" was so strange to watch - and it looked very difficult, there was a lot of hops on pointe (never my favorite to perform). Thanks for the info Major Mel!
