Performance opportunities?

Are there performance opportunities for adult students outside of their own school recitals? And if so, how would one go about finding them?

You should consider community theatre. They often do musicals and need dancers. Sometimes it is tappers but just as often not. They will specify. If tap is not specified than it is usually more "theatre dance". This can vary from Bob Fosse type jazz to very basic jazz to ballet based. Check where theatrical auditions are advertised in your city. There is always Backstage.com but you will get the professional auditions there. You could also call up some known community theatres to see what they are doing and when are auditioning. Another option might be depending on your level, local opera companies. They need dancers for operas. Depending on the budget of the opera house, it may or may not be union. If it is union (AGMA) they will only cast union professional dancers. If not, the auditions are open to anybody. The choreography usually is not that difficult if they are using non-union dancers. I have seen the non-union auditions advertised on a dance website for my city. Google "dance" and your city and see if you come up with a website that lists all the companies, classes, auditions, job openings, etc.
