Momof3darlings
As the last bit of shopping and pre-planning begins to draw near, a reminder for our Parents of Dancers attending SIs this summer to share when the dancer is away................what's on your "play" list. Quote Link to comment
lovemydancers
One already off to her new city/company last weekend, T-minus 16 hours and counting 'til the other one flies out! I've been a single parent for 18 years and can't remember the last time I was home alone! Forgive me, I love my daughters, but I'm downright giddy! I'm thinking about popcorn and merlot for dinner tomorrow night.... Quote Link to comment
Small Slipper
This mouse is going with the cat to her SI. It is the 2nd year we have done this...she was on her own for 3 years (summer) before she decided she just really wanted me there with her! So I'll ask my husband what he and my son are planning and report back to you!!!...hahaha My DD and I have a lot of things planned, including traveling to NYC to see ABT perform...me, I plan on using the time I have alone to work out!!! WriteLife
This mouse is also going with her cat We will see several ABT performances and Twyla Tharpe's new Broadway production. Several friends from her studio will be in New York at the same time and I may end up serving as chaperone for excursions to Coney Island and the museums Mostly, while she is in the studio all day, I will be working out (yeah!) and sightseeing. Maybe I'll settle down at a coffe shop and start writing that novel I've been planning in my head... In any case, it will be a beak for me since dd is homeschooled, so is underfoot all the time - except when she is at dance classes. Her father is going to have several guy only weekends with old friends. Quote Link to comment
calamitous
lovemydancers- I love your response. Popcorn and Merlot make a great dinner. My DD is home for her last summer before college, so I am the one escaping, as I am currently in Istanbul and then head to Beirut. I think it is nicer this way around. Quote Link to comment
lovemydancers
Wow! Have a great time, calamitous! Kandi, Come Fly Away is fantastic--you'll love it! Quote Link to comment
dcns
My plans this summer are some hiking with friends, painting the kid's bedrooms, catching up on my reading and maybe scrapbooking. This is the first time DD will be gone for 7 weeks (two 3 week SIs and an 1 week of academic camp). It's going to be strange not having her dancing through the house! My DS is still home and has three weeks of day camps so I'll be driving him around. Quote Link to comment
crockett
Just not having to do the commute to ballet makes me happy. Usually spend 1 hour driving each way, 6 days per week. Daughter is away for 5 weeks, now I can spend more time with the rest of my family. Quote Link to comment
MBF
Same exact situation here. Just so happy not to spend and extra 10-12 hours a week driving (forget about the time spent waiting around). I still have an older college age DD home for the summer and my 5 year old DS. Hopefully the weather gets good and we can use our pool but I want to spend quality time with DS especially. He is playing Tee Ball, maybe a trip to the IMAX and Science museum, movies, a couple of other things. Oldest DD and I will maybe have a girls night somewhere like the local casino (neither of us ever gambles) or hibachi restaurant. It is just nice to be untethered for 5 weeks!! Quote Link to comment
balletmomy
With three other kids we will be close to home but have plans to take the little two camping and enjoy the nice weather! Quote Link to comment
Momof3darlings
Just wanted to note that for this particular thread, it is open to all Parents not just those in the Parents + category. We just did want this to be a Parents thread so did not put it on Cross Talk. So if you child is not yet 13, please do comment. Quote Link to comment
mmded
I am doing the exact opposite. I am gearing up for four weeks of nonstop driving to physio, hot yoga, the gym and all of my DD favourite shopping spots. DD works in Europe and comes home for her summer break. Any time at home will be marathon cooking and baking experimentation with ingredients bought by mom and with North American full size appliances! Quote Link to comment
Graicey'sMom
DD will be away for 5 weeks...while there will be no ballet driving/waiting/watching, I'll be busy with her brothers- not so much with the one home from college, but w/ the younger one who has swimming, golf and is going to give a learn-to-row program a try. I work in real estate and summers are typically very busy in my area, so work, work and more work will round out the dancer-less time ;-) Wishing all the ballet parents an enjoyable summer!
