MyDancinGirl
Hello. I am looking for some brand names of some good long-lasting convertable tights for my dd. She wears a size Child Medium or Large and likes the convertable tights. The problem is, she usually ends up putting a run in them after the 2nd or 3rd wear. Does anyone know any good brands that are particularly "sturdy"? Thanks in advance!! Edited September 13, 2010 by MyDancinGirl Quote Link to comment
WriteLife
Try Capezio mesh, convertible tights. Mesh tights have the advantage in that you can sew up holes to make them last longer but my daughter has pairs of these that are seveal years old without runs. Gaynor Minden also makes tights that seem to last along time on my daughter and she wears tights six days a week. She likes these because they are softer. Also the Capezio mesh has seams which are not allowed at her current studio so these are a good alternative. Quote Link to comment
JJOhio
I second the suggestion for Capezio mesh (I believe it is style #9). My DD is in an adult size, but I am pretty sure they make smaller kid sizes. As kandi mentions, they do have a "fake" back seam and the color is a bit peachier than other pink ballet tights (although the color fades after a couple of washes and is not a bad color). It is the preferred tight at our studio and they are super durable. For a non-mesh tight, I have found that Body Wrappers are bit more durable than some other brands (our old studio used Liberts and they snagged very easily). Quote Link to comment
Wendigowild
My DD is a fan of the Bloch Endura Adaptatoe. With those I place in the dryer when washing too; it seems to make them stronger. Quote Link to comment
momtofour
My dd wears Bloch Endura Adapatoe also. There are two different pinks...Ballet Pink and Pink. I think we use Pink which is lighter incase you are ordering online. I wash on delicate and hang to dry. She currently has a pair that is over a year old and look perfect! Quote Link to comment
MyDancinGirl
Thanks so much for all the replies!! I will look into both of those options . Quote Link to comment
MamatoMary
Another Bloch Endura mom here. I also put DD's tights through the washer, and sometimes the dryer. They have never run. In fact, DD likes to "pick" at her tights because she wants to create snags and holes like the teenagers wear theirs. So far, her efforts have been futile. Quote Link to comment
Momof3darlings
Sometimes if a child consistently puts holes in tights it isn't the tights at all. Some questions to look at are: does the child wear tights to and from dance with no leg coverings? Are the tights big enough? (even a pair just a tad too little will create undue stress on them and cause consistent runs. Make sure to go by height/weight and not clothing size) As an example, most 10-12 year olds really can wear and adult small tight. The mesh ones are usually too big, but any of the microfiber tights, once they are 10-12 if they have any height on them at all, an adult tight is a better fit. Does the child put the tights on correctly but rolling them up the leg or do they put the feet in and PULL all the way up to the waist? With that said, there are some tights that run more than others and of course, mesh tights don't seem to run as quickly but will pill or get holes. Changing tights will sometimes help. But other times, re-evaluating the care of tights makes them all go a long way. Quote Link to comment
yankee
Along the lines of what Momof3darlings said regarding the care of tights, we have found that washing them in a mesh bag (the type recommended for delicate garments) helps to lengthen their longevity. Quote Link to comment
tarcoulis
Another Bloch Endura lover here. I toss them in the washer and drip dry with maybe a light scrub at the grubby parts. The last lot held up so well that we were able to hand them down to a younger friend and they still looked great. Quote Link to comment
MyDancinGirl
Momof3darlings--you have a very good point there! I do have a feeling that my dd PULLS her tights on and isn't the most gentle when doing so. And she tends to "pick" at her tights (nervous habit I guess) which may actually be creating the runs and snags. Also she has long legs but is still in child sizes according to weight so maybe switching to the larger size may help the tights fit better without "stretching" them too much when she puts them on. Thanks for the advice!!! Edited September 14, 2010 by MyDancinGirl Quote Link to comment
learningdance
Very, very helpful, especially the size info and how to put on tights. . . We have that part right. I just bought DD some beautiful Capezio tights, that I love and found that they are picking a little. Now I am going to check the style number and look into these recommendations. Momof3darlings
Ummm yes on the grey tinge and jeans....... Quote Link to comment
dancingjet
It is worth a look at how the tights are being put on and taken care of. DD's tights last forever it seems - she wears the Capezio mock seam type. We wash them with light colors and then hang them to dry. Quote Link to comment
MyDancinGirl
I went ahead and ordered a few pairs of the Capezio mesh and they are wonderful!! My dd has worn them for a few weeks now and they really hold up well. Thank you everyone who put in input and suggested them!! Quote Link to comment
