dobby
Hi, I´m wondering if someone knows how many years of ballet dancing does it take before you can begin take lessons in pointe shoes? Quote Link to comment
Redbookish
Dobby, there's really no set number of years -- particularly for adult ballet students. The Sticky in the Pointe Shoe forum The Facts of Life about Pointe Work is really helpful, and would be a good place to start. You could also consult your regular teacher -- she or he can see you, whereas we can't! Quote Link to comment
dancepig
Redbookish gave you a good answer. Personally, for me, it was five years 2-3 classes a week. That is going back to class after a 15 year hiatus. Quote Link to comment
TemptressToo
My teacher says at least two years with 2-3 classes a week AND be able to balance on demi (with one foot at either retire or coup de pied) for a full minute. She also wants your technique, flexibility, and strength to be acceptable. Quote Link to comment
ami1436
To be honest, I'm not sure what I think of the balancing on demi for a full minute thing.... Quote Link to comment

ami1436
I got that -- I think a strong balance is important, but for a full minute? Not sure. Quote Link to comment

We often do that at the end of certain combinations (albeit, right now, I'm still using the barre for assistance). Quote Link to comment
