Mel Johnson
Hello, Mistilyn, and welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers. Popping joints in the legs are familiar complaints in ballet. Your teacher is having you do the right thing by making sure that you are properly hydrated before beginning class. Dehydration can cause muscle spasms. Popping, as long as it is not accompanied by pain, is generally harmless, but as it has been persisting for such a long time, you may want to ask your doctor for a referral to an orthopedist or other Sports Medicine physician, just to set your mind at ease. It's too bad that you had to experience teaching where turnout was forced, but it isn't necessarily related to this problem. Interesting that it manifests during frappé and developpé! Does it only pop when the knee is straightened? Quote Link to comment
