Mel Johnson
Hi Dave, and welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers, and particularly to the Men's Forum. Good show on finding a place where you can feel comfortable starting. That first step is often the most difficult! Good for you! Enjoy your new art, and let us know how things are going for you. Over 50 dancer
Welcome Dave. A fellow Brit but living in San Francisco. I started classes here 8 months ago and I'm hooked! Spent part of my vacation this summer taking one on one tuition. Hope you find the experience as uplifting as I have. Quote Link to comment

Over 50 dancer
I often say that! But at 55 I do not have time for regrets. Quote Link to comment
Dave3254
I often say that! But at 55 I do not have time for regrets. My favorite quote of all time has to be from Ghandi - "Live as if today was your last and learn as if your going to live forever" love it and thats how I feel about ballet now! Quote Link to comment
For Me It's a Religion
Hey Dave, How are you enjoiyng the classes? I'm a 24 year old beginner in York, but originally from Durham - where did you find a class there? I've been going for 2/3 months now and love it - sometimes think I'm improving but it's very slow and more difficult than I ever thought. It's often a 1 step forward, 3 back for me but I guess we just have to persevere! Good luck and enjoy!! Quote Link to comment
Rubber Legs
Hi Dave, I am practicing for RAD grade 5. I live in Derbyshire and I go to a ballet school in Nottingham. It would seem that very few guys in the UK do ballet so please do post and let us know how you get on with your ballet. Paul. Quote Link to comment
Dave3254
Hey For me, Thanks for the message. I'm really loving my classes, everyone is so friendly and their are now 3 guys dancing! I really wish I had done it sooner! I'm taking adult lessons at Elvet Ballet School on a Friday night, based in New College Durham, we normally get about 12 people (3 of which are guys). It's good to know that there is another North East dancer out there! Perhaps we should ask Northern Ballet in Leeds to run a day workshop for male dancers!! it would be great for us all to get together and learn together onece in a while! Im so pleased that you are really enjoying your ballet its an amazing masculine art form! I just wish I'd started sooner, would love to have been young enough to do at least one performance on stage! Would you be interested in asking Northern Ballet in Leeds to run a guys day workshop?? Dave Hi Dave, I am practicing for RAD grade 5. I live in Derbyshire and I go to a ballet school in Nottingham. Rubber Legs
Hi Dave, I have been to see the Northern Ballet Theatre twice when they where in Nottingham, they are very good.A workshop day at the Northern Ballet in Leeds is a great idea,I am not sure about how to go about asking them though.I guess they would want to know how many guys would want to attend etc.I would certainly interested in attending a workshop day. For Me It's a Religion
A workshop sounds a terrific idea Dave and I'd love the chance to attend. Hope the classes are going well in the nice surroundings - was home in Durham today and nearly got stuck because of the snow. And yes this place is great to realise there are others out there just like us - here in York I'm the only guy in my class. It's not a problem but some male company would be welcome! Dave Hi, I'd be interested in something like this in the future. I've been to a few classes in Bristol; from 'New York City Ballet workout' at home, to my fist class last June, to three lessons at Hamilton House in Stoke's Croft, one each at the Students Union and the Bristol Russian Ballet school - - and now attending a term of classes with the Classical Dance Studios, at Tyndale Baptist Church on Whiteladies road. I'm 30 years old now. Would love it if there appears a similar little male adult dance fraternity in the south west, for the time being I've always been the only male in class (apart from at the SU). Perhaps there is one already, I'll fish around the forums. If there was a workshop day somewhere like Nottingham specifically for Adult male dancers, I'd make time to take a train up there. Thanks for all your posts here. Quote Link to comment
