Hey! I'm new to this site so i don't really know how to use it. But aside from that...I was wondering if there is a way to get accepted into the Vaganova Ballet Academy or the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Russia. I really want great training, and this is where I want to go. I was wondering if I should send my info and a video, or just do competitions and various summer intensives. Please help. Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers.

Although there have been American students at St. Petersburg over the years, I don't know of any programs currently active which intake American students for the Vaganova Choreographic Institute. The Russian-American Foundation has a program to the Bolshoi which currently has a handful of American students in that school. There is also the Russian Academy of Theater Arts, GITIS, in Moscow, which offers classes, but not at the Bolshoi itself. For information about the Bolshoi program, google "Russian-American Foundation".

Hello. I am still trying to figure out how to use this site properly, so I apologize in advance if this is not where I should post this. I could not find a way to start a new topic thread. I am trying to find out about the Bolshoi's year round training program in Moscow. My 12 year old daughter has been invited to attend and I would really like to hear from any others out there whose children have been and what their experiences have been like.

Having attended the Vaganova Academy's methodology course in St, Petersburg, Russia, my advice is to wait until your child is at least in high school. Living in Russia is not like living in the US. 12 is a bit young.

I feel this as well which is why, if she were to decide to attend, I would go to Moscow along with her so that she would not be on her own. Any first hand knowledge of the program itself and anyone's personal experiences there would be wonderful to have and would greatly assist us in helping to make this decision as it is not an easy one to make. She worries that if she turns them down now she may not be presented with the opportunity in the future. She greatly admires the dancers that the Bolshoi has produced throughout history and strives to be among their caliber one day...

YoungDancer, welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers. :) Since you are new, I will not remove your posts, but this forum is for Teens, and parents cannot post here. If you go to the Residency and Pre-Pro Schools forum, there are topics there on the Bolshoi and Russian Schools. Look for Schools in Russia, and Studying in Russia.

My apologies. I am still learning how to navigate my way around all the various forums. I appreciate your help.
