New to everything ballet.

Well I have already gotten answers for most of my questions but there is still one question haha. Are the tights weird? That's one of those things that seems rediculous but I can't stop thinking about it. Any advice to get rid of the distraction would be good too! Thanks!

I doubt you will notice them once you have them on. M Stevens tights in particular are made of material that is similar to that used for wrestling uniforms, etc. The reason ballet (and other) dancers wear tights is so your teacher can be sure you are using your leg muscles properly, and also because with all the complicated steps dancers do, loose jeans would get in the way and pose a tripping hazard.

Oh ok that's good because I am a big wrestler so that shouldn't be a big deal then. Although I haven't ever worn wrestling tights before. Hmm it will be an interesting first time experience! Haha

I must admit, when I first started ballet a few weeks ago it was the tights that caused me the most concern. Once you get over the initial fear of wearing them, they are the best things to dance in, firstly your teacher can see what your legs are doing and give correction where needed. Secondly they actually support your leg muscles, keep them warm and allow your legs to move freely.

 

When I first turned up to class in a pair of tights, I thought that everyone would look at me a laugh, I felt so self concious, but nobody made any comments. Thank you for this link, I really like this blog - even if it is a little bit late for me as I stop my carrer as dancer fews years ago :-)

 

For the tights, I never had problems with it. And somewhere I even miss wearing them as it have many advantage as mentioned before ( warm, teachers can see better,...) but if also give you the possibility to see your legs better .

 

One of the reason I also like tight when I started ballet, is that I loved this movies where the heroes are wearing also tights ( from Zorro to batman).

 

I don't know how it is in your school, but in mine, I could choose, the color and the material for my tights. If you like the colour and the material, it make it really easy to wear it.
