ami1436
I will be visiting Tacoma often in the upcoming year, with possible relocation, and thus am looking for some classes to try out on my next visit. I've done a few google searches, but always appreciate the input of members. Many of the classes I've seen for adults in the area are just one hour long. I'm aware of PNB's open classes in Seattle, but for a variety of reasons will often not be able to travel outside of Tacoma. What I'm looking for: -Adult classes divided by levels (I know this is hard --usually about 3 levels is enough though). -Possibility of taking Int/Advanced - Advanced classes at least 3 times a week, if not more -1.5 hour long technique classes -Possibility to continue pointework I'm not opposed to taking classes with the teens, if that's an option. Many thanks! Quote Link to comment

gimpydancer
Sorry, I don't have any first hand information. What I do is go to yellowpages.com and do a search under "dance" for the area. You can check out schedules of any of the studios that have a website. Quote Link to comment
Clara 76
It may be one of those ballet-less wormhole cities Quote Link to comment
thecostumelady
I took a lovely adult class at Ballet Tacoma over spring break. I used to study with Miss Jan there when I was a teen and had the chance to go back in March. She is, sadly, gone, but my two adult daughters and I really enjoyed class. It was a morning class, but I think they had others available. Quote Link to comment
WAballet
Can you go to Olympia? It's only 30-40 min drive. I was able to find some schools there: http://olympiadancecenter.com/index.php, http://www.studiowestdanceacademy.com/Home.aspx. And in Tacoma: http://www.dancetheatrenorthwest.org/, http://www.tacomacityballet.com/, http://www.wcbdance.org/, http://www.joemeryballet.com/ Quote Link to comment
thecostumelady
Oh, yeah! You're right WAballet. It used to be Ballet Tacoma, but it's Tacoma City Ballet now. Oops. Quote Link to comment
ami1436
Hi All! Thanks -- Tacoma City Ballet looks great during summer, but during the year it's only one hour. WABallet -- I found those via google as well; do you have any personal experience with any of them? When I'm visiting, I may or may not have car access depending on how the other half is getting to work and/or if I do drop-offs.... but if I do move there I will have my car. I figure that when I visit, I might as well try out a few classes and see if there's anything I like. Fingers crossed! I do wish I could consistently get to PNB! Quote Link to comment
Tacoma City Ballet
Hello! I just wanted to chime in that our Company classes in the fall are available for a drop-in fee of $15: Tuesday 6-7:30pm Wednesday 5:30-7pm Thursday 6-7:30pm It's true that our open classes are only an hour long starting in September, but if your in the area in the next couple of weeks, Mr. Joel is teaching Mondays and Wednesday (except for labor day) from 10-11:30am. I hope you'll have a chance to come check us out! Hi All! Thanks -- Tacoma City Ballet looks great during summer, but during the year it's only one hour. ami1436
Hi! Thank you so much for responding here. I'm not going to be visiting there again until October, so maybe I will try an adult class and see what the instructor says, and also try a company class. The Wednesday time in particular would be good, at least for that visit. Can I flutter my eyelashes and convince you guys to do an adult adv class for 1.5 hours... a few times a week... and pointe classes... (kidding -- a girl can dream, right?) Could you comment on 6th ave from Sprague to your studio. Is it safe to walk? And when I do get to town, is there anyone in particular I should be in contact with? I may try your pilates classes too -- could I do those on a drop-in basis? Thanks so much! Quote Link to comment
ami1436
Sigh. The more I research classes in Tacoma, the sadder I get. Quote Link to comment

I took a class with Mr. Joel in October and loved it - I think he might remember me. In any case, he suggested some classes for me which I can't remember, but I hope to be able to get to his classes when I'm out there - work permitting! Will your company classes still be open for a drop-in rate, as you suggested earlier? I dance 3-4 times a week right now, plus pilates and other exercise. I enjoy the other exercise, but nothing compares to dance class! Quote Link to comment
