Audition help

scootch

Recommended Posts

DD 11 is going to try out for the Nutcracker at a local performing arts high school. The audition is calling for a resume and head shot. We are completely new to all this audition stuff so any advise appreciated. Even if she doesn't make it, I think it will be great experience for her to try out. There are no specifics on the head shot. What size do they usually want, horizontal or vertical?? Any advise for the resume will be helpful too. Thanks much.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, scootch. For purposes of a Nutcracker audition, they most likely want the 'head shot' as a reminder to help put the information and their notes together. I would use the

Summer Intensive--General Topics 's audition threads as a good guideline. That forum is arranged alphabetically, so just scroll down the index until you find the 'audition' threads.

For purposes of the Nutcracker audition coming up, a nice school picture would suffice. If you happen to have a photo of her with her hair up (as for dance), that would work nicely as well. Simple photo size is sufficient (3x5 or 4x6).

As for 'resume', they simply want to know where she has trained and for how long. So, a simple listing of her dance studio, teachers she's had, and dates is good. IF she's had performance opportunities, great; list them. If she hasn't, don't sweat it.

Mostly, she should just go, be ready to dance, follow directions, learn, and have fun!

Thanks so much. Hard to be a newbie :o Picture people has a $18 package now, so we are going to go there Monday. I think I have the resume pretty well down. Should I put the resume and picture in say a two pocket folder??? thanks again.

Thank you. DD will be going to her first Nutcracker audition also in a few weeks, and this info is very useful.

My dd is 8 and during her audition she had to pretend to open a box and act surprised one year, last year she had to pretend to be a boy and run around. Not sure about this year but she has also had to perform cartwheels and they also asked girls to do a back walkover which she did not attempt. The first year at 6 she said she was too shy and did not pretend to open a gift! I think she was more prepared the second year and did much better. We really had no idea! This is her third year to audition and she was very comfortable with the process. I usually tell her to give it a try if she can and I do a little coaching the week before such as show me surprised, sad, happy, etc :grinning: I hope your daughter does well. It's so fun to hear the excitement of the girls and their dream parts. My dd has wanted to be a mouse, rat king, Fritz and party boy...I attribute that to her brothers and really those part do have alot of action. We should find out soon!

Thanks everyone... my dd made it. She was quite intimidated at the audition as she had much less experience than most of the dancers. What she has going for her is a great stretch and infectious smile. She got the parts of party boy and angel. The same part as the girls she was intimidated by who have been in Nutcracker for the past 3 years! So excited for her. Now to find out if I have to cancel our walt disney world vacation in November or not. Hope your dd had luck too camercad!

Congratulations to your dd! Honestly, I can't remember that much...my dd was a party girl last year so I was focused on watching her...imagine that :) Bothering the girls and running around is all I can remember. She is lead angel and gingerbread this year and disappointed not being a party BOY.

Does your school video the Nutcracker? Maybe you can watch it to get an idea. Ours does not :D nor are we allowed to video it.
