Tight Cramping in Glutes?

Hello everyone. I have two problems for the moderators here. I hope you guys can help me.

I was practicing my splits one day during this past summer and I had a very hard time trying to get down all the way on my splits. I am usually very good at sitting down on them and just relaxing there, but this time it was different. I felt a sharp pain on my right glut and it prevented me from stretching even further. The pain exceedingly got worse when I was trying to get up from it. I decided that I should lay off on stretching for a couple of weeks. When ballet started again, the teacher wanted us to stretch after out barre portion of the class. Nevertheless, the excruciating pain occurred again. I was very worried thinking I might not ever be able to stretch again. Can you moderators give me some advice on what I should do?

My second problem is my hip. Every time I go down into a grande plie, my hip oddly locks and I would have to stop the exercise and lift my leg higher to pop it. This also happens when I hinge my leg to go into a developpe. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does, I get extremely annoyed with it. Is there anything I could do to prevent it from locking?

Thank you guys so much! :o

You have pulled a hamstring. That may sound like it's a diagnosis, but it's no more of it than to say about gastric distress, "You have a tummy-ache." Any pain without a specific cause is reason enough to go to the doctor to find out just what is wrong. You may find out that your lockup problem is related, so go, without further delay.
