loveballet
I'm not sure this is right forum to post. I looked through book/video forum, but cannot find information. Last week was parents observation week in my DD ballet school. While I enjoyed watching classes, all the explanation, corrections and some anatomy given to students make me find out some more. Can anybody recommend any books that can help ballet parents understand techniques of ballet? Any will be appreciated, but I'm more interested in technique books and ballet anatomy. I have a few books, regarding general parents guide for ballet and ballet story/history (introduction level). But. ff you have good book to recommend, it would be nice too.. dkd
I don't have any specific book recs, but check your local library for ballet books. I think we've read all that they have at our library. Also, ABT has a nice dictionary of ballet terms on their website. Not sure if links are allowed, but it's : http://www.abt.org/education/dictionary/index.html Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted November 19, 2011 Administrators Report Share Posted November 19, 2011 I would recommend Classical Ballet Technique by Gretchen Ward Warren. It is a large book with lots of photographs of professional dancers illustrating the written descriptions of steps, positions, and movements. Quote Link to comment
trythis
The Ballet Companion by Eliza Gaynor Minden was very VERY helpful to me. http://www.amazon.com/Ballet-Companion-Dancers-Technique-Traditions/dp/074326407X Quote Link to comment

msd
Ballet for Dummies (yes, there is one) is a user-friendly resource with a lot of good information that's easy to read and understand. Quote Link to comment
MamatoMary
I second the Ballet Companion. Not only does it discuss the terminology and steps, but there is information about the history of ballet, synopses of actual ballets, bios of professionals, and more that has made me more informed. DD usually checks it out of the library and renews it for months at a time, so I think she'll find her own copy under the Christmas tree this year. Quote Link to comment
