Jarring January

Yeah, I couldn't get through a petite allegro in class, and after so much time off of real class, I was quite surprised and depressed that my extensions in center are only barely above 90. Yikes. Never knew that my lower limbs could feel so heavy!

Hey folks. Back on the board after a long time away... And probably won't be here as frequently as I used to be. My main moan is about the rest of my life being so crazy that I can't dance as much as I wish. But, I do still have the petite allegro... now, does someone want to lend me some extension? :)

Seriously, it's hard to get back into things after the holidays, but so thankful that dance is still there for me!

Welcome back, Ami!!

I took off several weeks over the holidays to recover from shin splints and athlete's foot (gross, sorry) and finally ventured back into class injury free last week. Class was ok but I didn't feel "smooth" and stumbled landing some jumps. It is necessary to take time off for injury but so aggravating to lose ground. I am excited that I am out of school now and hopefully will have more time to dance (depends on new job, for which I am currently searching!).

Hi Tiffany! Long time!

I've been getting back into it - had a difficult time with pirouettes during combinations (after class was fine...) and knew what I was doing wrong... but couldn't get back to it. Frustrating as I was working on triples in the fall, but ce la vie. I've really come to just appreciate that I can dance, to enjoy going when I can, and of course, to keep working, but to understand that my professional and personal life may sometimes take me away from class, and that is okay, as long as I get back!

So, the pirouettes are slowly coming. But it's slow.

My grumble is that my downstairs neighbors have been very noisy at night lately (like hammering together furniture at 1:30 am, directly below my bedroom)... and yesterday and I had a very bad headache as a result, so didn't make it to class (I was not comfortable with driving, it was that bad!)... It was a class that I don't usually go to, but that I wanted to go to for a few weeks to get back on pointe. Sigh. Guess I'll start that next week instead.

Well you can always practice en pointe loudly to make your downstairs neighbors catch the drift;)good luck!

My top half and bottom half don't look connected. My legs will be doing stuff, and there's my torso - wavering about and looking like it's being held hostage by my legs, carried about against its will.

Returning to pointe after seven weeks off. Enough said!

My turns...sigh and not being able to jump due to my size (working on both things, though).

I have about the crappiest arabesque in the world. It's what always gets corrected first when I take class with a new/different teacher and i can't seem to improve it.

What's wrong with your arabesque? I hate that I can't seem to cambre when I'm in arabesque... it's holding me back.

I have no strength in my back, so my hip opens way too much. So a teacher comes to correct that and then my arabesque drops down to about 45 degrees.
