ballet_fanatic
I know there are other threads out there about this, but I wanted to ask it personally. My calves are 14 inches around. And then my thighs at the middle are about 16-17 inches around. Are my calve considered big? Because when I dance, I notice that the other girls calve don't seem that big. And even if it's not that big, I have short legs and a super long torso, so that makes them look bigger. I'm not really sure what I'm trying to ask. I guess is there anyway to make them look smaller? Cause I know they probably won't get smaller. And I am not about to grow anymore. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 20, 2012 Administrators Report Share Posted January 20, 2012 We don't use measurements here anymore than we use weight. There is no way that we can tell you if your thighs are over developed without seeing you. Numbers tell us nothing, because we cannot see the build and the proportions. It could be totally structual, or, if they really are over developed, then that could come from working incorrectly. If you are sitting into your hips, with your weight in your heels, that will do it. Over working the quads in things like grand battement and développé will also contribute to that. Ballet training, if taught correctly, is about lifting up out of the legs and lengthening everything. Quote Link to comment
ballet_fanatic
The thing is, I don't think my quad are over worked, just my calves. What could be causing that? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 20, 2012 Administrators Report Share Posted January 20, 2012 Not putting your heels down when you jump, and/or, too many jumps for too long a period of time. More likely the first reason. Quote Link to comment
ballet_fanatic
Oh ok. So, the only way to sort of correct it is to practice putting your heels down? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 20, 2012 Administrators Report Share Posted January 20, 2012 Well, were you taught a demi plié with your heels off the floor? I don't think so! Quote Link to comment
ballet_fanatic
Um, I was. But maybe I've been starting to lift them up a little...huh! Well, I'll practice that, and since I have an audition tomorrow I'll realy think about it! Thanks! Oh and when I do a grand plie, I think in any position, to get back up, I am sort of using my quad muscles. What muscles are you supposed to use? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted January 21, 2012 Administrators Report Share Posted January 21, 2012 Don't stop at the bottom. That causes you to lose the energy to just push with your feet to return up. Quote Link to comment
