The Rock School/RAPA

There was a girl at Boston Ballet's SDP this summer who does that. She attends R.A.P.A. and the Rock School but lives at home in New Jersey. So yes there are students who do that.

I just got accepted to the Rock and RAPA for the 2006/2007 school year. I am a going to be a sophmore, and my parent's big concern was the neighborhood. I auditioned at the school at the end of March and was very impressed by the caliber of the training the dancers recieved. The neighborhood just seemed to be a bit sketchy and my mom wanted to find out how other people, who had spent the year there felt about the area. Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

My DD lives in Center City and walks to the studio every day. She feels that the area is OK but she should not walk out alone at night, it is a city, afterall. My DD does not live in the Marine apts so is not in the same area, but does walk there and back every day. If your DD will be staying in the Marine apts, she will have a very short walk to the studio and back and should be fine, esp in a group. The PA Ballet company is there everyday, so other people are in the studio and studio area.

My son was there for 2 years. He did not have any problems. The area behind the Marine club is sketchy, but they are pretty strict about where and how the kids move around. Going back and forth to dance is entirely safe and he did not have any problems. I know his first year he was a designated escort for the girls. They may still have such a policy. Also, the younger kids have to travel in groups of three. That seems to be a good policy also. Tell your mom to talk to either Dana or ALison about any specific concerns that she has. They respond very quickly to email and reasonablt quick to phone calls.

Are you saying that the kids will not be living at the Marine Club? Who made this announcement?

My understanding at the end of last year was that there was one more year at the Marine Club and they would determine housing for 2007-2008 sometime during the year next year. I wonder what has changed.

DD is not in RAPA but we do hear information about the program. We have not recieved anything in writing nor heard any announcements as parents of non-residential students. We have heard that arrangements will change in the future. The Marine Club is being converted to luxury condos- downtown Philly has been undergoing a lot of urban "revitalization." Unless duhitsnicolette heard an official announcement about next year, I am inclined to call this unsubstantiated rumor and give it that amount of consideration.

it is an offical annoucement because my mom had asked the front desk lady. my mom said they might be going to this one place, i cant rember but i think it might of been called winds or something like that.

My daughter attended last year, she was a freshman and she had no problems with regard to the neighborhood. Or at least none that we were ever aware of. By the way did you just get acceptance in July or did you attend the summer program?

Ballet Obsessed

I have kind of an embarassing question but here it goes:

Just out of curiosity, does everyone that is put in levels 5-6 have to be in the RAPA program if they wish to attend The Rock School because of the conflicting schedules with public schools?

my son had some people in his class that did not do rapa for school and he was level 6-(not a stupid question).

tsavoie, Just out of curiosity, do you know how it worked out for the people who weren't in RAPA?
