Ballet Talk for Dancers

shameless favoritism or is this how it works?

DanceMumNYC, there is a reason pre-pro ballet schools do not offer ‘contemporary, lyrical, etc.’.    Those are competition studio “genre”, not classical or modern dance.  Tap, flamenco, character, modern, jazz—yes, you’ll find in a pre-pro curriculum depending on the school’s philosophy and background.  But not the others.

The pre-prof schools my dd attended were only ballet. DD also enjoys the other genres, however. Out of all that you listed, she can only take 2 because of the “ballet rule.” Whether it’s classical or recreational dance, they’re preventing her from these experiences. We opted for junior intensives that offer more than ballet so at least she can enjoy it during the summer if she can’t for the year-round.
