Adult summer intensives / workshops / good classes in Europe?

In New York I love to take Pat Hayes Dokoudovsky's classes.. She's such a character and her adagios are breathtaking...

margotmargot -- I tried to PM you, but I don't think you have that capability yet. Do you attend classes at the NY Conservatory of Dance (where I think Patricia Dokoudovsky teaches) regularly? I'm looking for a new school in NYC and it's so close to my apartment that I think I may try it out next week. Do you like the school and think it would be appropriate for an adult beginner (about 10 years of on and off training)?

Thanks for your help!

Ashley

Hi Margot,

I haven't been keeping up with the forums, and I'm sorry I missed your topic when you originally posted. I had a nice experience with Dance Master Class, which I attended a couple of years ago. The classes are in English, but you also have the option of taking Italian classes, as well, as the program is in Urbania, Italy. I believe they've also started a program in Spain.

There is more information about their adult program and faculty on their website (www.dancemasterclass.com), but I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have about my experience.

Thank you, that looks exciting!

Sorry for not having checked in for awhile.

I'm also wondering whether to take the Performance Course at RAD in August - it's a mix of daily ballet and contemporary/jazz classes. Not sure if it's for me, but that's the only ballet intensive in August that I can find.

I love the idea of the London Amateur Ballet - I'm not sure if I can make it to London in time for the intensive - do they run daily classes throughout August? I have to check.

Ashley, I think you would love Ms Hayes's classes. She always has a few beginners alongside with some nice strong boys (always a treat to watch them jump :o) ) and some more advanced students.

Her studio is remarkably spacious (it's housed in a former baptist church building).

Maybe you have even checked it out by now. If so, let me know how you liked it! I didn't have a chance to go to her classes for awhile. Hope to be back in March.

xx

Ooh, very timely thread. Does anybody know anything about adult ballet classes in Madrid? I'll be there for a month this summer and would dearly love to take some classes while there. I'm at a beginner level.

PS: I'm sorry I forgot to add that I'm looking for classes in Paris for August, 2014

Hi everyone! One of my favorite teachers is having another intensive in Spain now, and while it isn't August, it might be relevant for our fellow BT4D friends in Europe.

Like the Bari intensive (which they're also affiliated with), it seems that any age can go as long as you are capable of that level.

Margotmargot, I have done classes at the Centre de Danse du Marais in Paris (probably the closest metro stop would be Hôtel de Ville), and they were great. A wide variety of levels and teachers. Check out their website http://www.paris-danse.com

That sounds interesting. Do you know whether they are open in August?

I have never been to Paris in August, and I know that a lot of things do shut down then when Parisiens go on holiday. I can't find any mention of it on their website, but it might be best to email them to ask. The contact details are on the website.

Daydreamer, I would love to hear from you how it was. Did you attend the adult course? I will be attending DMC in four weeks, but I got accepted into the regular, not the adult course.
