audition for high school

My DD would like to audition for our local performing arts high school. She will need a 90 secord piece to perform before the judges. Would it be rude or in bad form to ask her current teacher to choreograph something for her? (We would pay for it, of course!) If we should not ask her teacher, how do we go about finding an independent choreographer to work with?

Has she learned any classical variations in her classes? If so, she and her teacher can choose one and ask the teacher to coach her. Many of the variations are around 90 seconds, although many are also a bit longer. Her teacher should know which one would be best for her. You will probably need to ask for a private lesson for coaching. If she has to choreograph something, that would take more time.

Ms. Leigh, thank you for your reply. Your answer reminds me, yet again, what a wonderful resourse this board is for parents as we attempt to help our young dancers along the way!
