Ballerina baldness

I have to put my hair up in a tight bun daily for ballet class (5 or 6 days a week) and I think that this is causing "ballerina baldness" or a receding (spelling?) hairline. How do I prevent this?

Balletpassion, this is not a topic we can really address here from a medical standpoint. We do not have medical moderators. As for my experience in many, many years of ballet, I have not seen this problem. But that does not mean it does not exist. If your hair is loose most of the time, and only pulled back tightly for ballet a few hours 5 or 6 days a week, I really don't think that would cause a receding hairline, and I have never heard the term "ballerina baldness". Dancers who have a high forehead often have to draw in some hair at the hairline for stage, but that is because of the forehead, not receding hairline.

However, if you feel this is happening, then I strongly suggest that you seek a physician who would be able to help you with this.

I'm going to close this topic, as I do not feel it is something that can be discussed by Young Dancers.
