Ballet Talk for Dancers

Podiatrist or Ortho

My 11 year old DD has been complaining that the outside of her ankle, around the bone, has been really hurting her. She dances 6 days a week on pointe and just finished a weekend of shows where she was clearly limping afterwards. Obviously aside from rest and ice, which is unlikely since we have shows next weekend and a full class load this week, should I take her to a Podiatrist or Orthopedist. I am trying to avoid going to one and then told to go to another. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest an Orthopedist. I would also have him check her bone ossification and growth plate to see if she should be dancing on pointe, especially 6 days a week. That is a great deal of pointe work for an 11 year old.
