ascballerina
As far as I know, once you get past ninety degrees with your leg, your back has to come forward a bit, still staying upright and supported, right? So if you're going to do a really, really high arabesque, you almost automatically go into a penche? (Correct me if I'm wrong, because that's the whole point of this post) So, how can this happen? Picture Link Is it a hole in my understanding, does she simply have more flexibility in her back than I accounted for? Because her entire back is almost completely upright, and I would have thought she'd need to be heading into a penche by that point.... Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted June 10, 2013 Administrators Report Share Posted June 10, 2013 She has great flexibility, however, it is not unusual for dancers to have that high an attitude (the long attiude, not a square one) or arabesque and not be in penché. Yes, the weight of the body moves forward and upward in opposition to the leg moving backward and upward. Totally possible! Link to comment
