DancingForever
I just found out that flip-flops can damage your arches. I've been wearing flip-flops every day in the spring, summer, and fall for the past 3 years! Is it possible that I've completely ruined my arches? I'm not sure how to tell if I have a high arch or not. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 2, 2013 Administrators Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 I doubt you have ruined them, but not wearing them all the time might be a good idea. Something with at least some support is better. Quote Link to comment
kočička
I'm curious, which are better or worse for dancers' feet, high heels or flip-flops? Quote Link to comment
DancingForever
As soon as I found out that they could damage my feet, I started wearing my sneakers a lot more. Thanks for you quick response! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 2, 2013 Administrators Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 Neither are terrific, but both fine once in a while, just not all the time. Quote Link to comment
Clara 76
I am seeing a huge increase in the number of young dancers who have a gigantic space between the first and second toe. I think it is not a coincidence that these young dancers spend most of their time walking in thong style flip-flops........ Quote Link to comment

I have a space between my first and second toe, yet I have never owned a pair of flip flops in my life… Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted December 11, 2013 Administrators Report Share Posted December 11, 2013 Sometimes those kinds of things are genetic, and not caused by anything one is doing or not doing. Quote Link to comment
SaraBallet
Yes they are bad for you but dont worry you can always strengthen your arches by doing excrsizes and using a thera band! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted December 19, 2013 Administrators Report Share Posted December 19, 2013 Actually, SaraBallet, anything that is bad for you that you continue doing is not going to be so easy to fix. As stated above, once in a while wearing flip flops, or heels, is fine. But continued wearing is the problem. Quote Link to comment
aspirant_dancer
Wow, thanks for posting. I used to wear flip flops all the time, and then I wonder why my arches aren't getting any better. Definitely going to wear sneakers more. Quote Link to comment
