The housing is definitely an issue...during the past few months I have spoken with several parents of current Upper 1 and 2 dancers who moved to Manhattan when their children were accepted, but this is not an option for me. I am hopeful that if my daughter were to be accepted (she is auditioning this coming weekend), we could identify a host family somehow. If she were accepted, I'm also wondering how soon we would have to accept a spot at JKO, because it will likely take some time to confirm whether or not we can identify acceptable housing.

Looking for any advice on housing as well as do the students stay year round or just sept through May?

The school should be able to provide a list of housing options. I would start there as the list may contais places that have gained trust throughout the years from former/current students. Some students only stay Sept.-May, but some also stay all year long if they attend ABT’s 5-week SI, or if it’s just the best option for them (for example, international students).

DanceMumNYC by learningdance thank you for the advice. We are just waiting to hear back on any housing options at this point.

learningdance Do you have personal experience with Pink Dorms?  Their website says 18+, do you know if they sometimes allow younger residents?

MoDance I stayed at Pink Dorms this past summer. I'm 17 and my roommate was 16. It served its purpose, had good AC. It was difficult not being able to make food there, but not the end of the world. There were also old men living in the room next door to mine so that was uncomfortable. Also the housekeeper is a foreigner so hard to communicate with. All of that said, it's a wonderful location, private bathrooms, near subway stops and a Target, and a safe area.

Anyone audition for JKO at same time as SI? Have you heard back? I know it says BY 3/15, but thought they would do sooner.

They sent out an email today saying they are delaying notifications until 3/31.

Can anyone fill me in on auditioning for JKO at the SI audition? Was that an option for all SI locations? Was it a box to check? I pre registered my dancer and there was no mention of being considered for JKO on the online form.
