Music copyright

My son is doing YAGP for the first time this year and on the website, they mention we are "responsible for copyright of music being used". What is involved in all that, and how do I get it? Are people being sued over this if they use certain music for contemporary or classical solos? Thanks for any advice.

For classical variations the accepted ones are all listed on the YAGP website. The music for all of them is in the public domain. For contemporary, it would be up to the choreographer to know if the music is available in the public domain.

Thank-you. That helps.
