Ballet Talk for Dancers

Too old for a professional career?

Recommended Posts

I am a 14 year old female. I used to take ballet when I was really young but not enough for a lasting effect. I really want to have a professional ballet career but I’m worried I’m too old. I exercise, stretch, and do yoga everyday including workouts specifically for ballet dancers. I’m 5’5 and have long arms and legs and a short torso which I hear is good for dancers. My mom is currently looking for beginner classes for me, so do you think I’m too old for a career? Thanks!

It is wonderful that you are so very interested in ballet. There is no crystal ball so only time will tell. You are fortunate that your mother supports you in your dream. Focus on the positive. You have desire and support. Find the best training available in your area and "go for it!"

I am in a similar situation. I am a 13 year old female and I also took ballet when I was younger. My dream is to become a professional as well and I have the same worries as you do. But, let me tell you this... I have many friends that are very advanced in ballet and saw me dancing. They told me that if I work hard enough, I might be able to become a professional. Work hard, you might be able to achieve your dream.
